Claremont Dance Festival 2009

The Claremont Dance Festival brings together Southern-California dancers for Social Dancing, Competitions, and Lessons.

Showcasing top professionals and the internationally renowned Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company.

The 2009 Claremont Dance Festival offers the following events (prices):

Dance Lessons
Starting Friday morning, everyone is invited to take any of the awesome dance lessons being offered as part of the dance festival. Lessons will be available for all levels, and in a number of different dance styles. Classes are typically taught by company-trained dancers as well as top professionals from LA. The Annual Black and White BallFacebook
A spectacular benefit gala held in the historic Edmunds Ballroom at Pomona College. Featuring a local, community organized "Dancing with the Stars" and performances by the internationally recognized Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company, including the new Michael Jackson tribute Latin Medley. A complimentary Waltz Lesson is also included.

A Dancesport competition catered to collegiate competitors. Featuring a focus on Newcomer - Gold events and demonstrations by top professionals, Collegiate Dancesport Competitors will compete to be seen at the Collegiate Showdown.

Rules and Regulations

Event Policies

  •  Food or drinks (with the exception of water in spill-proof containers) are not allowed inside the gymnasium. This policy will be strictly enforced.
  • The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company and Pomona College are not liable for any injuries that may occur during the course of this event. All dancers compete at their own risk.
  • The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company and Pomona College are not liable for the loss, theft, or damage of any property during the course of this event. All dancers/attendees are responsible for their own property.
  • The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company reserves the right to cancel and/or reschedule any event.
  • Personal cameras and video cameras will be allowed. All dancers/attendees should be aware that they can and may be photographed and/or videotaped while at this event. Everyone attending this event hereby consents to being photographed and/or videotaped while at this event.
  • There will be no refunds or exchanges.
  • The Judges’ decisions are final. 
 
Eligibility Requirements
  • This competition is restricted to amateur dancers.
  • The Newcomer category is for dancers who have never competed or have been dancing for less than one year. Newcomer dancers are restricted to the Bronze syllabus.
  • All Newcomer, Bronze, and Silver events are Closed Syllabus only. Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in immediate disqualification. Please refer to USA Dance for syllabus guidelines.
  • Gold Single Dance and all Multi-Dance events are either Closed or Open Syllabus.
  • Any individual may compete at their level and one level above in both Single Dance and Multi-Dance events (e.g. Silver and Gold Latin or Novice and Pre-Novice Latin).
  • Nightclub dances are “anything goes” (lifts, tricks, etc. are acceptable) and are all levels.
 
Attire and Costumes
  • Nice, casual dress is acceptable for spectators at all events.
  • No shorts or ripped jeans are allowed for competition.
  • All shoes worn by competitors must not have the capacity to damage the gym floor.
  • All ladies’ heels must have heel protectors. These may be store-bought heel protectors, suede taped to the heel, a piece of masking or electrical tape, etc.
  • Costumes are optional, but not required, at all levels of competition.

Spectator Fees

Spectator fees cover entrance to the entire Showdown event.

All students, with valid Student ID: $2 at the door
General Admission: $10 at the door

Registration Deadlines
November 13th: Mail-in pre-registration must be postmarked by this day.
December 5th: Day of the competition and late registration deadline.
You can register at the door, but pre-registration is encouraged.
 
Couples Registration Fees
Early registration:  $20 per person
Late registration or registration at the door: $30 per person
Claremont Colleges early registration: $15 per person
Claremont Colleges late registration or registration at the door: $25 per person
 
Competitor fees allow individuals to enter into an unlimited number of events subject to level eligibility. See Rules and Regulations on our Event Information page for more information.
 
Formation Team Registration Information
All formation teams must have their registration postmarked by November 13th.
Formation team registration will only be done through Mail-In Registration.
For scheduling purposes, please alert our competition coordinator to your intent to enter a formation routine as soon as possible by e-mailing us at competiton@claremontballroom.org

1st Annual Winter Collegiate Showdown

The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company is proud to be hosting our 1st annual intercollegiate dancesport competition on December 5th, 2009!The competition is open to all amateur dancers regardless of college affiliation or age. Singles and multi-dance events in both International and American styles at all levels will be offered, as well as formation team events. Come join us in Claremont, CA, for the dancesport event of the season.

Ballroom Dance Concert 2009

The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company proudly presents its annual Spring Concert.

This year, we explore the contrast between our roots as Ballroom dancers and the modern context we find ourselves in: "Made Modern." A 90 minute dance spectacular, this concert features our award-winning performance and competition routines from the entire year, including classic and beautiful Ballroom pieces, steamy Latin pieces, and a few cute Swing, Polka, Disco, and Two-step pieces to round out your experience.

A company of over 90 dancers, the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company prides itself on quality performances and routines you'll never forget. The 2009 Concert will be held for 3 days only at Big Bridges Auditorium on Pomona College:

  • May 1, 7pm
  • May 2, 7pm
  • May 3, 5pm.

Tickets are $10 for seniors, students, and employees of the Claremont Colleges, and $15 for general admission. Group ticket prices are also available. Tickets can be purchased from ticketmaster.com, the Big Bridges Box Office, or from a member of the dance company.

Claremont Spring Dance Festival

The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company is proud to present its second dance festival of the year! After our successful Claremont Dance Festival in the fall we were overwhelmed by requests to do something similar this spring.

The event will take place April 3rd and 4th with classes during the day and events at night.

Friday night will be a SALSA NIGHT, featuring a lesson from 8-9 and dancing from 9-12, including some salsa in the rueda (circle dancing) style which will be taught earlier that day.

Saturday night will be the annual SWING JAM, featuring a LIVE BAND and a lesson at 8, dancing 9-12.

The weekend will have a bigger focus on the classes and parties and less on performances by the company. For those, come to our spring Concert May 1st-3rd!

Salsa Party this Friday 9/12/2008

Join your very own national dance champions and the 5C social dancing community Friday, September 12th for the first Salsa Party of the semester! The party will be in Edmunds Ballroom at Pomona with FREE First-Timer, Beginning, and Intermediate lessons from 8-9 followed by dancing until midnight (also special advanced lesson from 7-8 for those interested in teaching this semester). Meet new people (no partner needed), watch performances by members of the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company, and learn about the upcoming auditions for the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company!
